FTC Teams eligible for the Media and Technology Innovation Award, Sponsored by Comcast/NBCUniversal

In case you missed the big news in the most recent FTC Team e-mail blast, I want to take this opportunity to let you know that FTC Teams are now eligible to compete alongside FRC Teams for the Media and Technology Award, Sponsored by Comcast/NBCUniversal (formerly the FRC Website Award)!

This award recognizes the FRC or FTC Team that develops and implements the most outstanding digital experience, marketing strategy and rationale for digital channels to share the FIRST mission with the public.  It will be awarded to the team that looks beyond just their team website and takes into account the various ways people search for and consume content.

The award was originally started in 2003 as the FRC Website Award.  As technology advanced and people changed the ways in which they consume media, the award expanded to include digital media as well.  The Comcast Corporation began sponsoring the award in 2013 and this year, the award received its name makeover and eligibility was extended to FTC Teams.

The goal of this award lines up with the homework Dean Kamen assigned at the 2013 FIRST Championship, which was to "Make It Loud!"  Here at HQ, we know that you do a much better job of spreading the word about our mission to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders than we can.  That's because there's nothing more powerful than the first-hand recounting of the things your students gain from FIRST.  Your websites, social media accounts and every video and photo you upload do this job best.

So, if you think your team "Makes it Loud" and that your digital media strategy has what it takes to compete, visit firstrobotics.comcast.net to review the submission guidelines.  Note that the submission process opened on February 1 and will close on the 28th at midnight eastern time.  Submissions to the contest will be reviewed and evaluated by a Comcast executive judging panel and the award will be presented at the 2014 FIRST Championship during the FRC Awards Ceremony.

I've seen some great FTC websites and social content out there on the web.  Make sure you take the opportunity to be recognized for your hard work. Good luck Teams!
